Join Dr. Cherise Smith, author, chair of African and African Diaspora Studies and founding, executive director of Art Galleries at Black Studies, in conversation with Valerie Cassel Oliver, the Sydney and Frances Lewis Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine. 

Together they will discuss Smith’s newly published book, “Michael Ray Charles: A Retrospective” and unpack racial stereotypes and how that history lingers today.
