2024 George Floyd Memorial Lecture

Following George Floyd’s murder, the Houston Public Library (HPL) initiated the Race and Social Justice digital project to document community sentiments on police brutality, socio-political activism, and criminal justice reform. Building on this initiative’s success, HPL African American Research Center introduced the George Floyd Memorial Lecture Series in 2022. This annual event aims to delve into these critical issues from diverse viewpoints, focusing on Black lived experiences in Houston and its environments. Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry is the 2024 George Floyd Memorial Lecturer.
