ART Trip | “Chief Library Curator Chronicles: Attending the 4th Annual John L. Nau, III Conference on Texas History”

, ,

As one of three Texas Black Archivists chosen to serve on the plenary panel at this conference in San Antonio, Texas, I embraced a creatively enriching interdisciplinary experience that was exactly what I needed.

During my road trip, I explored the San Antonio Central Library and marveled at the beautiful murals, statues, and architecture downtown. The Riverwalk filled me with peace and ignited a sense of urgency to return to my first love and wholeheartedly pursue Black excellence during these uncharted times in the United States.

I quickly looked up its title and meaning: “Door of Equality” (La Puerta de Igualdad), created by the Mexican artist Sebastián. This sculpture symbolizes the ongoing struggle for justice, featuring two tightly wound geometric pillars that stand side by side. Location: Installed at the San Pedro roundabout, near the San Antonio Central Library.
