Director Harold Smith’s documentary The Gospel According to Glenn North explores 18th and Vine Poet Laureate Glenn North’s unique poetic blend of jazz, blues, spirituality, Black history and social commentary. The film also delves into North’s work as the Director of Public Programs at The Black Archives of Mid-America. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Glenn North and visual artist and filmmaker Harold Smith.
NOTE: This event will also serve as the kick off for the Black Archives of Mid-America Black Poetry Book Group. The first 25 attendees interested in joining the book discussion group will receive of free copy of Mbembe Milton Smith’s Playing Side Two. The first meeting of the book group will take place Tuesday, May 23rd at 6pm.
